The following background information is intended to assist you in completing the online datawarehouse access form.
Reportal vs BusinessObjects There are two levels of datawarehouse access. Reportal access is the most basic. This allows security-based access by username to the Reportal to view existing BusinessObjects reports in a web-based format. It does not allow user access to the BusinessObjects software to prepare their own reports or modify existing reports using data from the datawarehouse. This access is most suited to staff who need access to up-to-date reports prepared by other staff for their section area via the web, but have no requirement to generate or modify their own reports.
» What is the Reportal?
BusinessObjects access allows security-based access to both the Reportal and the BusinessObjects client. This allows users to prepare their own reports and modify existing reports using data from the datawarehouse. This access is more suited to administrative staff requiring access to data for management purposes.

Data collections Data are stored in universes, which are grouped together into collections based on their concentration. All UQ staff are entitled to have access to Official and Current Student, Research and Staff collections. Restricted access is allowed to Finance collections and also to some Staff information. There are additional optional universes including Graduations, Space and Convocation A full list of data universes by collection is available.

What access is appropriate for my position? The access required depends on the position and functions of the user. An Information Guide is available to assist staff in selecting access most suited to their requirements.

Security The data warehouse is a read only environment for end users. Access to information is via user's personal accounts. The data warehouse contains confidential and sensitive University data. As with data retrieved from other University systems, authorised users are entrusted with access to these data to enable them to do their job. Data should be used responsibly. Confidential data should not be released to others except those with a 'legitimate need to know'. A proviso is included on the application form.
Access privileges are likely to be the same as those for other administrative computing systems. For example, school administrative officers will have access to information for all students but only to individual staff and financial data for their own school.
