Question
I have a table that I would like to turn into a chart using BusinessObjects.
Answer
Creating and formatting charts in BusinessObjects is easy.
Solution
To turn a table into a chart, right mouse click then select Turn to Chart. Alternatively, go to Format then Turn to Chart in the menu.
Select the type of chart you would like to use, then click OK. The chart may not look exactly as you want but it is easy to format.
To reorder the data in the chart, right mouse click and then select Format Chart. On the Pivot Tab move the variables to where you require them and then click OK. In this example, Gender description is moved to the Z-axis instead on the X-axis.
To select a different type of chart, right mouse click and then Format Chart. On the Series tab, select a different type of chart and click OK.
You can place a Custom Sort of the data in the chart by clicking on the data to sort (in this case Eftsu Faculty). In the Report toolbar, next to the Sort icon, there is an arrow - click on this to view the sorts available. Click on the "hand" icon. Move the values in the list by moving the Move Up or Move Down buttons. Click OK. The data will be sorted in the order you wish.
The data in the Chart can be filtered to remove any values you do not wish to show (in this example report the Eftsu Faculty "UQUNI" and "#EMPTY"). In the Report toolbar, click on the filter icon. Alternatively, go to Insert than filter in the menu. Highlight all the values to be retained then click OK. The data will now be filtered to exclude your unwanted value or values, for example "UQUNI" and "#EMPTY".
To change the colours used in the chart, highlight the area you want to change by clicking on it.
Right mouse click, then go to Format Data Series. Change the colour by clicking within the colour cell - this will bring up a colour palette from which you can select or create a new colour. Click OK.
You can apply the same technique to change the colours in the font used in the axis labels.
Click on the label, then right mouse click and select Format Axis label.
Change to colours and if you wish the number format or font.
To insert a legend, right mouse click then select Insert Legend. The legend can also be formatted by clicking on the legend and right mouse click to select Format Legend. The border may be removed by "unchecking" the border box.
To insert a Chart Title, right mouse click and select Insert Title. The title can be formatted - click on the title, then right mouse click to select Format Title. The border may be removed by "unchecking" the border box.
